Used three- and four-horse trailers at Remolque Caballos
From three stalls up you enter another class of vehicle: twin axle, over 2,700 kg gross and a compulsory B+E licence. Second-hand, these are the trailers that save the most euros, and also the ones that cost the most when you buy badly. These are professional vehicles. The ones that reach the market have worked, and you should buy them the way you buy a used van: on documented maintenance, not on looks.
Twin axle means twice the wear
With two axles, all four brakes must be adjusted together. A four-stall trailer that pulls to one side under braking has a seized brake, and that ruins a tyre in a single long trip. Ask for the latest roadworthiness test sheet and read the braking section: imbalances are recorded there, even when the seller does not mention them.
The ramp and its mechanism
A four-stall ramp is heavy enough to need assist springs or gas struts. When they fail, the ramp becomes dangerous to handle alone, and repairing it is not cheap. Open and close it yourself several times. It should lift with one hand and stay up unaided.
Find out what it was used for
A breeder's four-stall trailer makes a handful of long trips a year. A haulier's covers thousands of kilometres a month. The second may be better maintained, but its chassis has worked ten times harder. The chassis number and the manufacturer's plate give the real year of manufacture, which does not always match the year of registration.
Every used trailer we sell goes through our workshop before it is listed: floor, axles, brakes, wiring and tyres. It is delivered with the roadworthiness test passed and the transfer of ownership included.
