Used two-horse trailers at Remolque Caballos
The two-stall trailer is the best seller, and therefore the most plentiful second-hand. That abundance is your advantage: there is plenty of choice, and no reason to accept one with repairs outstanding. The price range is wide. A fifteen-year-old two-stall goes for about a quarter of what it costs new; one three or four years old, a little over half. The gap is almost always explained by the state of the floor and the axles.
Look at the central partition and the breast bars
In a two-stall trailer the central partition takes every blow: the horse leans on it at each braking. Check that it is not bent, that its floor anchorages have no play, and that it folds away without being forced. Breast and rump bars must release with one hand. If you have to hit them, the horse stays trapped when something goes wrong.
Unladen weight decides the licence
A used two-stall with a wooden body can weigh 200 kg more than an equivalent current model in aluminium and fibre. With two horses aboard, that gap decides whether the outfit still fits inside a category B licence. Add up the trailer's unladen weight, the weight of the two horses and your car's gross weight before closing the deal. Box F.1 on your registration document overrules every other consideration.
A show trailer is not a farm trailer
A two-stall that has done a show season racks up kilometres but is usually well maintained and kept under cover. One that has lived on a farm has few kilometres and plenty of corrosion. Ask where the trailer slept. It tells you more than the year of registration.
